We were 15. I still remember the first time our eyes locked. A primordial force pulled us together.

The first time we touched, I felt an ancient whisper. My body remembered.

They say teenage love is fleeting. But we weren't. We were intense. We burned everything around us. We were all we both had. It was us versus the world, wasn't it?

But we had to run. Run away from everything we knew. We ran and ran. No end in sight. It took a toll on us. We fought. We made up. We fought. We made up.

We had glimpses of a beautiful life. Like a dream that gets better just before you wake up. Years flew by, with you by my side. Everyone else was a blur.

The voices in my head slowly began to take over. You sensed something was amiss. The same thing that happened to my dad. I've seen my mom struggle. I couldn't do that to you. I knew I had to leave. I had to leave before it got worse. Before the world around me drowned. Before you forgot who I used to be.

Maybe we'll meet in another lifetime. Maybe we can sit by the beach, arm in arm, comfortably in silence, listening to the crashing waves. The closest we'd come to freezing time.

But in this life, I need to go. I'll be looking out for you from above. I'll forever be your guardian angel.
