The One That Got Away
A firefly on the canvas

To,
Her,
by the pond of gone,
avenue of time.

my dear sprawling symphony,
Barren is the crown of my mind. I am the only practitioner of retrospection, going back and forth between realities that lie inside-out, deceiving my perception of what’s real.

Abandoned was my last name. Grief kisses me goodnight while I sleep with the phantom of yesteryears.. with it’s fusty stench, reminding me of my choices and people. Bereft of love, I lie here as a homeless person in the passage of life, watching all passerby’s who steal my alms of empathy. At nights while the streets are desolated with darkness painting with mute colors on the canvas. I collapsed with broken home, occupied with intruders that prey on my soul.

A glowing glare flew by the lawn at front. With dreadful eyes dancing to the rituals of death, I looked at it. A kindled firefly with every ounce of beauty in it’s fleeting light.. broke all my curses. I resurrected from a facade of reality into a realm. A realm where sun sings the hymnals of love while it gleams in its full glory by the horizon.

A hymn that reminded me of you.. a hymn of heartbeat that sang eternally in me. You, my dearest blemish of balm.. it is You, it was always You!! Life was over-the-moon when I saw you for the first time. My love was never reciprocated back to me, not even a single cell, God forbid.

You left me for a handful of blokes with gaudy wardrobes of forefronts, then I realized on which grounds I stood. I imagined my whole life with you. But you were the one that got away. The one who is far gone and unrecognizable.

A firefly sang with me on that night and that was the last verse of that hymn.

farewell,

from:
abandoned firefly,
abode of free air,
affairs of reality,
the unknown.
