The girl in the red kurti

I was waiting for her, it was almost time for the concert. She had texted me - ‘just left college, will be there in 10.’ 15 minutes had passed since.

She finally showed up, my fatigued eyes spotted her in seconds. Her eyes frantically searching for me. The sea of people around me, a blur. Our eyes met. My annoyance vanished. What an honor to be inconvenienced by a beauty like her.

How was she mesmerizing even at the end of the day? Her makeup was slightly smudged. Her kajal, a dark patch against the sweat beading on her temples. She was wearing a red kurti. As if she needed any help standing out.

“It’s okay, come let’s go in.” I said and held her hand as we made our way into the crowd.

This was not a date. Or was it? The line felt blurry. But as the songs started playing and the lights dimmed. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her.

I hadn’t seen her in this light before. When did she transform into this beautiful woman? I pulled her a little closer.

Later, after I dropped her home. I closed my eyes. Everything else vanished, it was just her face, a perfect picture burned into my mind. If there was a God, I thanked him for letting me hold an angel, even for just a few hours.
