1. a wilting peace lily flower.

sights: grotesque brown on forest green.
smells: earthy. alive, but also dead.
sounds: a silence that pierces through still air. rustling sounds of white petals disintegrating.
sensations: soft blooming. breath of life.
tastes: fresh dirt. death. renewal.
notes: smothered by excessive, unchecked care.

2. an autographed copy of funny sad.

sights: peach orange. ornate pinkies.
smells: mischief. raw, unadulterated truth.
sounds: elena’s voice screaming behenchod.
sensations: slow intoxication. ripping off existential band-aids.
tastes: a pack of camels. coffee stains & ink on paper.
notes: art as portal. artist as mirror.

3. empty bottle of oxycodone.

sights: deathly, sickening, yellow glow of prescription bottles.
smells: dried blood. hospitals.
sounds: gulping screams with electrolytes.
sensations: rising tides of pain, crashing against opioid-induced delirium.
tastes: bitter, white euphoria on my tongue. phlegm stuck in the throat.
notes: forbidden playground. methodical blurring of mind’s edges. dulling of self-poisoning fangs.

4. my guitar in its black, leather case.

sights: vivid fantasies.
smells: pipe dreams. seasoned with time, but still fresh like jasmine incense burning in the dining room.
sounds: chords. chaos. silence.
sensations: expansion of capacity. surrender. chewed up & spit out by the mystery.
tastes: unfinished projects. disappointment. patience.
notes: a meditation on cycles. grace in suffering.

5. tibetan prayer flag above the living room door.

sights: jewel in the lotus. standalone mountain.
smells: burnt rubber. gasoline. thin, crisp air.
sounds: raging gusts of wind. the flow of purifying, ice-cold streams.
sensations: friendships that outlast tests of time. young love, slipping through fingers like sand.
tastes: adventure. adrenaline. laughter. fresh snow.
notes: ten foot snow serpents. a brush with god.
