How are you feeling?

today, i feel weird not the poetic kind of weird not even the mysterious, alluring weird just the slightly off, refrigerator door-left-open weird. i’m leaving for university this friday and every object in my house has started looking at me like i’m abandoning them. the ac hums its betrayal. the tv flashes one last melodramatic goodbye. the fridge oh the fridge my most loyal companion in midnight overthinking and accidental snacking just stands there cold and silent. stoic. a philosopher in its own right. there’s something profoundly tragic about knowing that hostels don’t offer you the dignity of these basic luxuries. it’s like stepping into adulthood but with less comfort and more community bathrooms. growth, apparently, demands sacrifice. and my ac is the first to go. i talked to a friend today just a casual chat but something in it unclenched the emotional fist i didn’t know i’d been carrying. i laughed. i breathed. i momentarily forgot i was spiraling. everyone says, “new beginnings are exciting.” i say, “Exciting for whom?” i feel like a poorly packed suitcase overstuffed with emotions, missing a sock. so yes, today, i feel weird. suspended between nostalgia and preparation. between fridge cold comfort and the lukewarm promise of change.
