Diet Coke.

Notes: tw: violence, graphic content

My drink of choice? Diet coke. Cold and crisp with the slightly strange aftertaste of aspartame. Condensation drips from the can as I wrap a tissue around it and bring it to my lips. One gulp, two gulps, three. Glug glug glug as the sweet liquid splashes against the back of my throat and settles down in the pit of my stomach. A sense of refreshment permeates my being on a hot day. Oh, the little joys of life.

__

An emaciated family walks with trepidation towards a truck. Cold shivers and tear drops keep them company as they mumble prayers under their staccato breaths. One foot in front of the other, slow, steady, gradual steps as they inch closer towards nourishment. Trembling hands fold in agony to the almighty. So close yet so far.

Bang. Bang.

Two heads blown to smithereens. A pair of knees drop to the ground. A scream to God: Why?

Context: There are numerous companies that I could write about in this context but I chose this one because it’s the product that I used to consume the most from the BDS list. https://bdsmovement.net/news/coca-cola-quenching-israel%E2%80%99s-genocidal-soldiers%E2%80%99-thirst

I'm struggling to deal with the cognitive dissonance of social media, one post is about some celebrity or a random meme and the next is about the mass starvation, ethnic cleansing and genocide that Israel is doing to the Palestinian people. I hang my head in shame, feeling powerless everyday.
